Kid Creole comes to Schouwburg Hengelo together with his band and three beautiful Coconuts as backing vocals!

Who doesn’t know August Darnell as the bubbly lead singer and founder of this band? A timeless hit machine that scored hit after hit especially in the 80s and now has 17 albums and 30 singles to its name, such as Annie, I’m not your Daddy, Stool Pigeon and Hey Mambo.

The band is still unmatched in energy, originality and musical hipness. Timeless and unique. A melting pot of powerful pop-funk laced with a hefty twist of Latin and Caribbean influences. In short, an extraordinary opportunity to experience Kid Creole & the Coconuts once again ‘live on stage. Before calling himself Kid Creole, the American musician plays in various bands under his real name August Darnell, but without real success. In 1980 he formed The Coconuts and changed his name to Kid Creole – influenced by the Elvis Presley film King Creole. Two years later, the group broke through with the album Tropical Gangsters, which yielded a number of hits, of which Annie, I’m Not Your Daddy’s became the biggest.

In the following years there is more success on the creative level than on the commercial level, as the group can be seen in a number of films including Against All Odds and New York Stories. The original Coconuts step up – and together form the group Boomerang -, but Kid Creole continues with a new line-up. The Sex Of It, written by Prince, became a modest hit in 1990 and the group continued to perform live. In addition, Kid Creole was seen in the British disco musical Oh! What a Night.
